Leaf Painting

Our Young Adults had the wonderful experience of creating a beautiful art project by painting leaves with Joanne Manning.  Each student painted several leaves, pressed them on to paper, and added vibrant colors using pastels.  The designs were fun to make, and truly beautiful!

Mosaic Skulls

We recently had the pleasure of having Doris Benter do a YA Program called, "Mosaic Skulls".  Our Young Adults enjoyed a night of creating a unique skull design using crystals, beads, paint and more!  This was the perfect project for Halloween.

Dark and Delicious

During the summer we had so many fun programs, and we've decided to spotlight one of our favorites!  This summer The Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum taught our Young Adults how to make art out of....CHOCOLATE! in the program "Dark and Delicious.

Inspired by scrimshaw carvings, our teens made fun designs out of chocolate...that they could take home to eat.  Check out some of the beautiful (and delicious!) creations that were made.

Program Ideas?!

Hey HPL Tweens and Teens!  As the fall is approaching, we are looking forward to starting some fun new programs!  We would love to hear your input.  If you have any ideas for programs, crafts, book clubs, or ideas for our YA room, please blog them today!  Or feel free to stop by the library and share with us.

Over the past year we had many fun programs including our Manga workshop where we watched a Manga movie and made candy sushi.  For more programs like this visit our website or visit us at the library!

Did You Know...
The CW's hot new show "The Secret Circle" was first a book series!

L.J. Smith, author of The Vampire Diaries brings you another bone chilling series about witches!
Cassie and her mom move from California to Salem, Massachusetts.  That's right, Salem...the town famous for it's witch trials.  Cassie discovers a group of girls called, "The Club" and soon learns that the club's members consist of Salem's very own teenage witches.  While Cassie learns about witches, she discovers that she just may be one herself.

If you are a fan of "The Vampire Diaries", be sure to read "The Secret Circle" series!
Read the books and compare them to the show. "The Secret Circle" will premiere next Thursday September 15th @ 9:00 P.M.  on the CW (after The Vampire Diaries).  Watch, Read, and TELL US WHAT YOU THINK! :-)

When You Reach Me
By sixth grade, Miranda and her best friend, Sal, know how to navigate their New York City neighborhood.  They know where it's safe to go, and who to avoid.  Like the crazy guy on the corner.

But things start to unravel.  Sal gets punched by a kid on the street for what seems like no reason and he shuts Miranda out of his life.  The apartment key that Miranda's mom keeps hidden for emergencies is stolen.  And then a mysterious note arrives, scrawled on a tiny slip of paper.

I am coming to save your friend's life, and my own.
I ask two favors.  First, you must write me a letter.

The notes keep coming, and Miranda slowly realizes that whoever is leaving them knows thigns no one should know.  Each message brings her closer to believing that one she can preent a tragic death.  Until the final note makes her think she's too late.
